Install Atrium in an afternoon
From the package in your inbox to a finished page. Written for SharePoint administrators and site owners.
Before you start
- SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365). On-premises SharePoint Server is not supported.
- A tenant app catalog. Most tenants have one at
/sites/appcatalog; if not, a SharePoint administrator can create it in the SharePoint admin center under More features, Apps. - To upload the package: SharePoint administrator, or owner of the app catalog site.
- To build pages: owner of the site where Atrium will live. A communication site works best.
- No Azure, app registration or API permissions are needed.
1. Download the package
Open the download link in your email and save the .sppkg file. Each order is one package, with its own IDs, so several Atrium packages can sit side by side in one tenant.
2. Upload it to the app catalog
- Go to the SharePoint admin center, then More features, Apps, Open (or browse to your app catalog site).
- Choose Upload, select the .sppkg file and confirm.
- When asked, choose Enable app (or Deploy). Atrium is then available to every site, and each site that should use it adds it in step 3, so nothing appears on sites you have not chosen.
3. Add it to your site
On the site, choose Settings (the cog), Add an app, find the Atrium package under From your organization and choose Add.
4. Build the page with the setup bar
- Open the site as a site owner. A dark bar appears at the top saying the template is ready to set up. Only site owners see it.
- Choose Set it up. Keep Add starter content ticked for sample news, events and people you can edit later, and tick Make it the home page if this should be the site’s front page.
- Choose Create page. In about a minute Atrium creates the lists it needs, uploads the photos to Site Assets, adds starter content and publishes the page.
Bought web parts without a template? The bar offers to create their lists instead. Then edit any page, choose the plus sign and add the web parts from the Atrium section of the toolbox.
5. Make it yours
- Content: each web part reads from a SharePoint list on the site (Site contents, lists starting with Atrium). Edit the lists and the page updates.
- Settings: edit the page, select a web part and choose the pencil to change titles, layouts and how many items show.
- Colours: Atrium uses your site theme. Change it in Settings, Change the look.
- News: publish a page as a news post and it appears in the news web parts. Tick Must read on important posts to ask people to confirm they have read them.
Updates
When we release an update, we email a new package. Upload it to the app catalog over the old one and choose Replace. Sites pick it up automatically; if a site shows an update is available, go to Site contents and choose Update on the Atrium app. Your lists and pages are kept.
Troubleshooting
- No setup bar
- You need to be a site owner, and the app must be added to the site (step 3). Refresh the page after adding it.
- Web parts missing from the toolbox
- Check the app is enabled in the app catalog and added to the site. New uploads can take a few minutes to appear.
- “This couldn’t load”
- The list the web part reads from is missing. Open the setup bar or the Setup and Templates web part and choose to create the missing lists.
- Employee directory or org chart empty
- These read Microsoft 365 profiles. Fill in job titles, departments and managers in the Microsoft 365 admin center or Entra ID.
- Still stuck
- Email ${esc(company.email)} with your invoice number and a screenshot. We reply in UK working hours.
Removing Atrium
Delete the app from Site contents on each site, then remove the package from the app catalog. Pages and the Atrium lists stay until you delete them, so nothing is lost by accident.
